Unhappy Video and Media Player

Hi
Have read your archives on this topic but am still not clear where I am going wrong. I want to play a short video clip (AVI file) on my hp 2210. I've got media player on both pocket and desk pc. When I save the file to the pockect pc and try to open it, a message says no programme associated with the file. Do you have any suggestions? I've looked in the 'everything you want to do with your pockect pc book' but that's not clear to me.
I think I've media player version 7 on the pocket pc and version 9 on the desk top.
Thanks for your help.

WMV files should play fine on the pocketPC windows media player, son convert your AVI into that format (should be smaller too) if you have WinXP you can use Windows Movie Maker to convert the files into a WMV format!

Thanks, I'm still with win 98se - have looked at MS site and think windows media encoder 7.1 might do the trick. Will let the board know how I get on.
