i-mate PDA2K

I am going travelling around the world and was looking for a means of recording my Journal electronically and staying in contact via e-mail and text messages. I thought the i-mate PDA2K would fit the bill. Has anyone any experience with i-mate PDA2K?

Has anyone got any ideas on which mobile phone provider would give the best coverage in south America and costs for downlaoding data?

Does anyone also know what options if any there are for solar powered PDA batteriy rechargers?
