Default USB2.0 Host HD

Hi,

Have got a Host USB2.0 40Gb HD, which can be used to Back-up Directly from Camera's and Other USB devices that are considered "USB Mass Storage Devices" without the need of a Computer (for instance, you can Backup your camera images onto this HD without the need for a PC), it's called a CUTIE OTG (On-The-Go) and be seen here http://www.vtec.co.uk/product/643_668.asp. It says that you can also Back-up your PDA, the Question is, can you use the Drive with a PDA as a normal Hard Drive and therefore play music off of it etc??

Many thanks in Advance.

I can't tell from the site you've linked to how the drive connects to the PDA. Is it via the PDAs USB sync cable or similar? If so I wouldn't think it would be possible to access files directly from the drive through the PDA.

Thanks for your Reply Charlie,
I am only presuming that the HD would connect to PDA via the PDA's USB sync cable, as this is how it connects to Camera's directly using the Camera's USB cable to the Hard Drives (female connector) USB cable.

You would have thought PDA's would be able to connect these days to a HD that is USB Mass Storage!!

Many thanks again!

I can't wait for the day they just build mini Hds into PDAs. I don't understand why they don't do it now to be honest.

Just one other query on the subject Charlie, on the Ipaq 4700, what does USB 2.0 client connector mean, surely this is something to do with USB Mass Storage Devices???

This means the PDA can transfer data to the host PC at USB 2 speeds if the host PC is USB 2 compatible.
