ipaq 3630 problem...

hi guys am new to the site and was wondering if you could help

i arleady tried the serch function with no avail....

right .... bought an ipaq 3630 the other day i bought it know it had a fault so know am trying to find out wot... the bat is dead so i need to use a power pack to turn it on , the start up screen comes the green light flash's and the it plays a welcome tune and say

' tap screen to set up pda'

i do this and then it goes onto the align screen it says

'tap screen on cross to align screen'

i do this on each place etc then it flashs and goes back to the exact same screen ' align screen'

i have done both soft and hard resets, but still the same ...

is it possible that the software program is missing? i have ordered an active sync so i can try using compaq's restore software from thier website? is this a wise idea?
or do you guys have any easiers solutions.......

Welcome to our forums.
Apart from the battery problem it seems the touchscreen could be problematic. You can download activesync from Microsofts website so I hope you havent paid for it when you ordered it. You could try reloading the ROM which you can get from HPs website but if there is a problem with the screen the ROM won't fix it.

thanks charlie , i downloaded the sofware last nite but am waitng on my craddle to arrive , someone told me i could use infrared but it doesn't respond,

i had the ipaq on charge last nite and have managed to get the battery to take some life but not much, the screen seem fine to function as to promt thew set up you must touch the screen and it goes tothe next align screen and each time the cross goes to each corner when you press it it moves tothe next corner ( so the touch is functioning as it recognises the touch and moves to the point)....
i also noticd that when its on the welcome screen "tap the screen to set up your pocket pc" when i press it there is an icon appears at the bottom right with an arrow but it goes asquickly as it appears and can't select it , then it goes on 'Align screen',

also when it powers on you get a pic of the ipaq and it says : p1.07 and 1.77 on the bottom right corner....

The screen may still be responding to taps but it seems it can't pin point the alignment. I may be wrong but that's the way it seems. Wait till your cradle arrives and see if you can reload the ROM.
