Why does Activesync never recognise my PDA and always books me in as a guest even though I set up a partnership?

Have you hard reset your PDA in between the time you set up the partnership and the last time it connected you as a GUEST?

Hi Charlie,

Yes I think you are correct. It now recognises the PDA but does not synchronise. I get an error message "Sync cannot start because this desktop cannot access necessary info. Restart and sync again. If problem persists and desktop is running MS Outlook 2000 click help and then detect and repair. Otherwise contact networkadmin" I am running Outlook 2002 and I have detect and repaired as above but still no joy.

Disconnect the PDA from the cradle and then go into to Activesync on your PC. Click on FILE --> MOBILE DEVICE and see how many partnerships you have, the currently selected partnership has a black dot next to it. You can click on FILE --> DELETE PARTNERSHIP to remove them...I'd remove them all and then create a new partnership.

Thank you. I have managed to delete 2 other partnerships I did not need, leaving the one it now recognises, however I still get an error message "Sync cannot start because this desktop cannot access necessary info. Restart and sync again. If problem persists and desktop is running MS Outlook 2000 click help and then detect and repair. Otherwise contact networkadmin" I am running Outlook 2002 and I have detect and repaired as above but still no joy. Are you saying deleting them all and starting a new partnership will alleviate this problem?

The info below is taken from an Activesync help site.

<li> If you see the error "Microsoft Outlook Synchronization - Synchronization could not start because this desktop computer could not access necessary information. Restart this desktop computer and synchronize again. If this persists reopen Outlook, click on help then run detect and repair. Synchronization cannot start because you cannot log on to the network, and access information, restart your desktop and synch again. If problems persist, contact your network administrator." in Outlook 2000. You need to reconfigure Outlook. See Microsoft Article Q276563 for details.

I have looked at this and tried to follow the steps however there is no options on the tools tab in Outlook 2002. I have searched the Microsoft website for a solution also. Am I missing something here?

I'm not sure, call HP for advice.
