ipaq 3630 email client problem

anyone know how to get the default email client on a 3630 authenticate itself to an smtp server? - ive set it up to a pop3 account using a gprs dialup via my mobile phone but it'll only half work! i can receive emails but i cant send them! its getting close to being chucked out the window in favour of an xdaII !!!!!

please help before someone gets injured on the pavement below by an unidentified flying ipaq!!!
