Why does ActiveSync keep starting up on its own?

I've posted in the HP specific area but nobody has responded so I'll put it to a more general audience...

My HP1940 keeps switching on for no apparent reason and every time it does, a look at the running programs screen shows ActiveSync is running. Its not connected to anything, bluetooth is off and even when I close it down from this screen, it gives an error then 15 minutes later it's started up again! I've checked that there are no automatic syncing schedules set and that everything is set to manual.

I'm just fed up with my battery being flat by luchtime when it's been sat in my pocket doing nothing... HELP!
