ActiveSync not working.

I have a ipaq 3970 connecting to my laptop which until recently was working fine - I had to un-install outlook from my laptop and re-install it - and now the active sync will not work.
I did this before where somebody mentioned deleting two files from the Windows\System directory would solve (and did solve) the problem - but this forum has now changed and I cannot seem to find the archive message that contained the details of the files.
Can anyone else advise?
