Default Encoding AVI files

I am trying to put some AVI files into my pocket PC and I have been told to use Windows media encoder but when i try to encode the file I encounter an error.
Is there any other software which will allow me to do the same?
Thanks

Are you trying to convert them?
If you just want to play them use tcpmp player, its free and loads better than windows media player.

Also dont forget most avi files are divx files, i dont know if pocket media player can play them, also your desktop media player might not be able to play divx movies.

Pocket TV can play quite a few files that media player can't play on your PDA.

Number 5 on this list above.
