Default ipaq 2210 / Nokia 6310i dialup without GPRS probs...

I contacted my usual ISP and asked them how I could access them (Zen Internet) via my PDA and they told me I could access them via 08456000194. I dialled this number manually from my 6310i and there is indeed a modem on the other end - progress at last! I then put this info in the PDA and tried to make a connection. I have successfully paired the devices for bluetooth but cannot make the connection to the ISP now. As soon as I ask the PDA to dial Zen the 6310i asks me to accept the connection to the handheld to which I press "accept" the phone then tries to dial the number (as above) but all you can hear is the intermittent tone you get when you have dialled a wrong number - yet if I dial that same number manually on the phone I make a good connection to the ISP' modem. Any ideas?

PS - I do not want to setup a GPRS connection, only a standard dialup!

Thanks in advance

Mike

Have you changed the dial properties to all G and remove any local area code and country code? You dont want to use GPRS which is fast than WAP can i ask why?

I have checked the default profile to ensure the number being dialled is correct. The number is also displayed correctly on the 6310i when the dialup initiates.

I do not have GPRS available and it is a Company mobile phone - they will not allow me to used GPRS so I need a standard GSM dialup.

I used to use a 6300 series ipaq with no problems in this way but I can't figure out why I can't do it on the 2210.

I have had this exact same problem !!

After many calls to O2 to ask why I could not make data calls from my 2210 & 6310i, I found that I did not have Fax & Data enabled on my SIM.
As soon as this was enabled I no longer got the Intermittent tone that you describe !!!

Be warned, it took O2 about 2 weeks to activate Data & Fax for me, on the upside it is a freebie .
