Default Synchronizing calendar info on 2 or more PDA's?

Is there a way of being able to synchronize calendar information (and contacts if possible) on multiple PDA's in a real-time environment. I know you can simply plug in each device into a cradle, but I need to carry out this function wirelessly. I believe an Exchange server as a central host for the data would be the best option? and synchronizing while near a hotspot should be possible. But in some cases the individual might be in the middle of nowhere, and have to use another form of communication (GPRS, 3G?). Can somebody advise on the best product / most cost effective way of accomplishing this task. Thanks in advance.

I am currently in the same position as you in reverse.

We use a collaboration suite called Kerio Mail Server, has simillar functionality to exchange but far cheaper and easier to manage. The latest release v6.3 has now got Activce Sync functionality. I am currently testing it on an O2 XDA IIs with very good results. See www.kerio.com
