Printing from my PDA

Can anyone help? I have a HP Ipaq which I want to be able to print to a Canon IP90 printer. Both have infra red ports and I can get the Ipaq to talk to the printer, but when I beam a document to it - it just prints out a lot of rubbish. I suspect they're not speaking the same language as the Ipaq doesn't have any specific printer driver. Is it going to be possible and what do I have to do?

My Printer has Picbridge and wi-fi, and simply works.
