Default Opinions on the IPAQ 5550

Hi
I am thinking of buying a pocket pc soon
I have thought of purchasing the IPAQ 5550 but before I buy I would like to know what other users of this pocket pc think and if they have had any problems. I have heard some users have had problems with this device. All replies welcome.
Regards Brian

Hi,

I've had my 5550 for about 3 months now and love it!

I haven't had any real problems with mine - a few minor connection problems with the WLAN (refusing to connect for no apparent reason), and, as with all Windows based machines, can require a soft-reset fairly often (though only takes 20 seconds to do, so no real problem - just an annoyance).

I use mine mainly for the WLAN (which works great), email, and playing 'retro' games! It runs very quickly with the 400mhz cpu and 128mb ram - great for gaming and makes entering settings, notes etc effortless. The finger-print scanner works fine on my 5550 - though some people have had problems with them - it really is more than just a gimmick.

What do you want the 5550 for? Gaming, WLAN, note taking, email? The 5550, even with the recent price cuts, is still expensive (£370+) so make sure you need all the features that it has. Otherwise, an Ipaq 2210 (£215+) or 4150 (£250+) may be more suitable - save paying extra for features that you're not going to use.

James

I looked at most of the PDAs/Pocket PCs on th emarket before I settled on the h5550.
I found the menu system easy to use, great screen ,brilliant memory, I could go on. The only problem I've had is not a problem with the h5550, I use alot of databases and I found out after I bought it that the activesync/pocketpc2003 wasn't compatible with what I had on the desktop. I was told different beforehand. Basically have your applications listed before you buy and you might find that the 2210 is better suited(my second choice). The iPAQs are really well built and easy to use. I've also found out that HP support is second to none.

I will be using the 5550 for email surfing the web bookkeeping photographs and games.
I have another question is it possible to connect to the internet with a dial up and broadband wifi system.
I have also wondered if it is possible to connect to the internet with a wired system without a PC.

I bought the 5550 about 4 months ago, and it is the best thing since sliced bread.

I use it for mainly my Contacts and Scheduling, as well as e-mail when i'm desperate for it. Haven't really used the Wireless, but have picked up other peoples wireless routers walking down the street.

I have had one major problem it which was static. It took me a couple of days talking with HP support, (who incidently have this new real-time support facility on their web-site) to find out that static caused my unit to stop working, even though the battery was charged.

Otheriwise the MUTS NUTS!!

The 5550 is an excellent all rounder with Bluetooth & Wifi built in. The 128MB of RAM should be more than enough for the busy user. I have never owned one but have used them almost daily @ work and would consider o-ne if I dodnt already have a 4150. Dont think I really need that much RAM anyway
