active sync compatibility

Hi
I'm looking at an ipaq with activesync 3.7. My laptop has activesync 4.1 installed and I can't change it due as it's locked by my company. Will they still sync together i.e. is activesync 4.1 backwards compatible with 3.7?
Can anyone help?

3.7 is the version on the software disk not the PDA but it will work with both.
