Active Sync Cuts off

I am using a USB cable to my HP 1910 to sync and charge up. Firstly Activesync doesn't always recognise and connect to the ipaq when connected. And wwhen it does shake hands the connection gets dropped for no reson. I have to turn off the ipaq and on again for Activesync to recognise it. It's a real pain. I have uninstalled Activesync, reinstalled, even recently reformatted my pc (for other reasons) but it still doen't hold the connection.

Any suggestions?

Is the USB connection to the IPAQ secure?
