Unhappy Ipaq 2210 restore probs

Have had to do a number of resets due to not closing programmes (learnt my lesson now!)

Each time I have to set up a new partnership with my PC through activesync and use a different name.

When I try to restore a previous backup it says it doesn't recognise the handheld.

Any ideas how to fool it into thinking that I'm the original handheld ID?

You can remove the old partnerships so you can use them again. Disconnect your PDA from your computer then click on the FILE menu in Activesync and look in MOBILE DEVICES to see all the names you have used already...select which one you want to remove by clicking on it the select DELETE PARTNERSHIP from the FILE menu.

Thanks Charlie,

Done that and then tried to restore from the tools menu in Activesync. On pressing the restore now button i get the following

' The selected backup file is not valid. Please select another storage file.'

Any ideas?

Somebody else put the solution to this into better words than I did so I copied it below from http://www.pocketpcmag.com/_archives/may00/tips.htm so all credit to them :

"Whoops! Fortunately, the fix is easy. What you probably did wrong was to set up a "new partnership" after you reset your Windows CE device. Your old backup file is only good for your old partnership. Do another full reset of your device. This time, when you put the device in the sync cradle, say "No" when ActiveSync asks you if you want to establish a partnership. This sets your device up as a "guest." Now go do your restore and all will be well."
