total newbie pdf files-pda question

hi,

i've just bought an ipaq 114 to play chess with and wondered if i could transfer my pdf files into the pda. i've got around 3gb of ebooks and such and wondered how much would it get compressed or does the pdf files retain its original size and i would have to use memory cards to store these e book? any help is much appreciated.
