The GPS feature is only available in "Navigation" mode. If you are currently using "ROUTE 66 Navigate 2004" in "Route planner" mode, you have to switch to "Navigation" mode first. In order to do that, you have to open the "View" menu and select "Operation mode". In the "Operation mode" window, tap "Navigation".
In order to set up a serial connection with a GPS receiver, please follow the steps below:
- Open "ROUTE 66 Navigate 2004"
- Tap "GPS On/Off" toolbar button to open the "Connect to GPS Receiver" window
- Select the serial COM port* and the baud rate (e.g., 4800 bps)
- Tap "Retry" to start retrieving GPS data
- Tap "ok" and start using "ROUTE 66 Navigate 2004" as a navigation system
* The serial port for different GPS receivers is as follows:
- "COM 1" for wired GPS (e.g., Leadtek GPS 9532) receivers
- "Outbound COM port" for Bluetooth GPS (e.g., Leadtek GPS 9537) receivers. Please make sure that the Bluetooth GPS receiver is paired and connected to serial port.
If the application cannot retrieve valid GPS data, please download and install Leadtek's "WinFast Navigator" for Windows CE to check the GPS receiver connectivity. The application can be downloaded from our web site at:
http://www.66.com/route66/images/web...eadtek_GPS.rar
To learn how to properly install and use Leadtek's "WinFast Navigator", please refer to the included manual.
In order to test the GPS connectivity, please follow the steps below:
- Connect the GPS receiver to the Pocket PC device
- Open Leadtek's "WinFast Navigator"
- Open the "Tools" menu
- Tap "Port Setting..."
- Select the protocol (i.e., NMEA), serial port and baud rate (i.e., 4800 bps)
- Tap the 2nd button on the menu bar to automatically detect communication protocol
- Tap the "Connect" button (1st button on the menu bar) to build connection with the GPS receiver
Please note that "ROUTE 66 Navigate 2004" can only receive data in NMEA 0183 v2.0 (or later) format at baud rates from 4800 to 38400 bps. If the GPS receiver uses the SiRF protocol, you have to change it to NMEA.
In order to change the communication protocol or the baud rate of the GPS receiver, please follow the steps below:
- Make sure that the application is connected to the GPS receiver. When it is connected, the communication protocol (i.e., "NMEA" or "SiRF") is displayed on the left of the status bar.
- Open the "Tools" menu and tap "Command..."
- Select the "NMEA" tab
- Select the desired baud rate and tap "OK"
