I have got exactly the same problem.

I found the following info on the internet somewhere, try this first:

This behaviour indicates either 1) a problem with your phone's system software, or 2) a possible corruption of the ROUTE 66 preferences file "prefs.ini" (this file keeps all your settings, history and favourites) on the ROUTE 66 RS-MMC card.

ad 1) To make sure the system software on your phone is consistent, you can restore your Symbian phone to its initial factory settings. Enter *#7370# (just like you would type a phonenumber). Then enter the lock code, default is 12345. Please note: 1) All phone data that was added after you first used your phone (contacts, SMS's etc.) will be lost after the reset! 2) Make sure the battery is charged before doing the reset. It takes the phone up to a few minutes to complete the reset procedure.

ad 2) To make sure that the preferences file is ok, delete the hidden file "\system\apps\ROUTE66\prefs.ini" from your RS-MMC card. You can do so by installing and using the Symbian file utility Fexplorer (http://users.skynet.be/domi/download.html), or by using a memory card reader/writer connected to your PC. (If you do not have a memory card reader/writer, we highly recommend purchasing one. They are not expensive, typically less than EUR 10, are easy to use, and simplify and speed-up updating your phone software considerably). Please note that deleting "prefs.ini" will erase the changes you have made since you first used ROUTE 66 Mobile 2005, i.e. your settings, favourites and history!

You can now restart ROUTE 66 Mobile 2005."

I tried but still not sucessful.

Never mind. I've had enough of Route 66 messing me about. Without swearing, their rubbish has driven me up the wall and i'm totally fed up with their half-hearted responses to my e-mails. Sending back the software and my bluetooth gps back tonight.

Extremely disappointed!

Enough said.

I have Route66 2006 for UIQ - SE 910i. The thread above was very useful and here is what I have found out. Route66 was not working for me. Every time I connected to the GPS it would crash with Kern-Exec 3.

The prefs.ini does need to be deleted when there is a problem with Route66.

I have another application installed on the memory card and deleted this. It appeared to fix the problem. On further investigation it was actually a folder in the System folder D:\MSSEMC\P-Series\system called CharConv which was causing the problem.

My suggestion for UIQ and other Symbians is to look for any new folders in the System hierarchy and delete them if you are having a problem. Of course back-up or be able to restore anything before you do that.

My R66 is now working fine.
