Default TomTom, IPAq h1940

I have just started looking into GPS, having tried it in the US.
1. Tom Tom seems the best, but is there a prefernce between Palm/PC based?
2.
If PC, is the Tom TOm kit (which includes h1940) the best?
3.
If I want to hook up mobile phone (Siemens A55), tom tom and car radio like Irving's setup, do you have to get bits here and there or can you get it all at once?

I hoped there would be a FAQ for newbies, but couldn't find one!
