Default ’GPS Unreliable’ Problem

I have an iPAQ 1940 & GPSmart (both Bluetooth) system but have a problem getting the GPS system on TomTom Nav2. The iPAQ connects to the GPSmart via Bluetooth ok. I have emailed TomTom support twice now but no reply after 4 days.

This cost a lot of money and I cannot get it to work despite trying everything I can think of.

Can

On the 1940, the Bluetooth port is COM5, so make sure you are using that. Also, make sure you have updated to the latest version of TomTom and the TomTom GPS drivers from their web site.

Have you "paired" the two devices so that they can see each other?

Thanks for that Jon - the instructions from the person I bought the GPSmart/TT2 from say its COM8.

Still not working though. Devices Paired OK. Re-installed new TT2.24 and GPS drivers from TT site.

Any other advice welcome - please!

Jon. Re pairing. In Active connections, I can see the GPS ok for Outgoing but nothing for Incoming. Is that ok?

Hi Steedy

What you can do is check to see if the device is passing data by going to the GPS status screen, you need to have GPS 2.8 installed.

Now if you click on gps at the bottom, now this will show you a box top left with 2 beside it at the right. If the box on the left is ticked please untick, now change the top box to say TOM TOM Wireless GPS. The bottom box should auto go to Bluetooth Serail Com 5 for the 1940. Now if you tick the box to the left handside. Now click on STATUS botton left. To the right of the screen you should see a small radar dish with grey dots going towards a pda on the right handside. If these GREY dots change to BLACK going from LEFT to RIGHT the pda is communicating with the gps reciever. Now you will notice 12 bars to the left of this, if you take the GPS outside you should find that GREY bars start to appear, this is the satalites. These grey bars will then go to red (some will normally 4+) this means that you have a gps fix.

Try that & tell me how you get on

Thanks Stevie. Right, firstly I downloaded GPS2.08 from the Tom Tom site. It shows in my 1940 as TomTom ~ GPS - is that OK?

Next, after tapping GPS it does not show any "2" anywhere - just GPS.

I selected TomTom Wireless GPS (no auto select - so I chose Bluetooth Serial Port COM5)

I could not then tick the box (it wouldn't let me).

Steedy

Have you connected to the device via bluetooth manager? Then go into tom tom.

did you ever get your problem resolved ? I've reinstalled a number of times and now downloaded 2.09 patch from TT still no joy.

Have you tried removing the device from bluetooth manager, adding the shortcut in bluetooth manager and then bonding the device.
