Default Tom Tom Installation

Can anyone advise of an idiots guide to installing & activating the Tom Tom software on an Ipaq 3950. I have purchased a 128mb memory card and tried to install via a laptop but having difficulty in getting the Ipaq to then read the downloaded files.

Regards

Craig

Craig,

It's actually quite simple

1/ When you install the TT2 software it will copy the program via activesync to the IPAQ.

2/ The install package show an option to download maps, select this and you will have a list of options, one of which is to copy onto a memory card. Providing you have a card reader atttached to your laptop, it will copy the maps to the card.

if you don't have a card reader (goto memoryforless.co.uk approx £20) then things are more difficult.

Hope this helps

Neil

If you like, you can install the maps to the SD card via the iPAQ. Its quite slow, and can take anything up to an hour with USB or 3 hours with serial, but it does work.

Sometimes its easier installing the maps on to your hard drive and copying the folder over to the SD card via Activesync

I seem to be doing these things but still get the error message "Cannot determine locations of data
Please reinstall data and/or application

Do I need a card reader in my laptop aswell?

Hi can you put some any files on the storage card. Can you even see your storage when you go into file explorer.

I had a problem for the first time last night - TomTom would not recognise that my storage card (128mb Pretec SD) had the maps on it.

I checked in File Explorer and the maps were there, and in Memory properties in the control panel it said that 91megs were used.

Strange...this has never happened to me before! So had cut my losses and did a hard reset, installed tomtom again, all the updates from tomtom's web site, and then it worked! How happy was I? Very happy. I had to drive to Manchester and tomtom worked a treat.

Exclamation installing ttii

You actually dont need a card reader, there should be an option to insatll the maps directly to the card (provided it is in the Ipaq) when you install the maps.

You can install the maps over directly to the storage card in the PDA, but this is much slower than using a card reader.

If you open two windows in your computers "Windows Explorer" you can simply Drag 'n' Drop onto your SD storage card..............
