Default Tom Tom Go or Road Pilot?

I want to buy a GPS speed camera detector. I've looked at a few, and like the Road Pilot Micro.

However, now that TTG has POIs enabled, it would seem that I can get a nav system and camera alert system for the same price as a stand alone alert system.

Is the TTG system really good enough, or should I buy a dedicted unit?

John

Welcome to our forums.
I think it's hard to compare the two since the Road Pilot is a dedicated speed warning system which incorporates radar detection systems. TTGO uses a database overlay for the map which is compiled by users like you and me so the accuracy of the data is not guaranteed 100%. but when you consider the prices then it seems that the TTGO is better value since you get a complete nav system. I suppose it depends on how serious you are about avoiding speeding offences

Do you know how the LiveWire Speed Minder compares with the competition?

I haven't used it myself but we've had no negative feedback about it.

Having spent the last couple of days corrolating the TT camera POI's against the camera in my area I think it's pretty spot on. If it was me (for the money) I'd go with the TT purely, as Charlie says, you also get a sat nav system....

Are you using the Pocket GPS World database?

If I could find a POI database that includes the speed limit at each camera I'd go for it like a shot -- the Road Pilot has this, but I haven't found any way of showing this information using tomTom . . .

I've been using it for months and although it doesn't say what speed the camera is I don't find this a problem as there are usually good indicators about what type of speed is enforced.

Hello there.

You'll forgive my inexperience and perhaps the ingenuity in my question but I haven't quite managed to understand one thing: would I be able to implement some kind of GPS speed camera detector in the Tungsten T3 + TomTom GPS I already own and use for travelling?

I still am, as a matter of fact. All I've managed to find so far are a few links to speed trap database files for Pocket PC (and UK, whilst I'm from Italy), and still haven't managed to understand wether it's some kind of GPS detection of a nearby speed traps or more simply a database of known speed traps shown as POI.

But I'll go on reading the many posts, I'll eventually come across all the info I'm looking for.

Cheers!
