Question ipaq rz1710 european maps

waiting for iPAQ rz1710 plus Tom Tom wired GPS to arrive.
I know it comes with uk maps pre installed on sd card with 4 cd's of western europe. I was told by HP whom i have bought it off that to use european maps i have to get in touch with tom tom direct, Where i will need to buy a product activation code to unlock maps. I was told from HP that this would cost 3-£5.
On trailing through the tom tom website i was alarmed to see that this would cost more ie 189e (£128).
This product seemed a good idea at the time as i don't really need a pda just sat nav. But i realise now i may have bought wrong system as this will cost more in the long run.
CAN ANYONE HELP PLEASE !

yeah i am affraid that whoever told you at HP that it was 3-5 mis informed you, you can only buy the key direct from tomtom so they dont supply us with the codes.

i think i will send it back as i have just read it does not support postcodes either.

the tom tom software is a light version i believe.

i was given duff information.

what system would you recommend from yourselves.

i am not particularly bothered about using pda for anything other than sat nav.

i did like the look of dell aximx30 (refurbished) on your site.

not sure about refurbished model though would you recommend ?

if you only want satnav and nothing else, the Tom Tom GO is the easiest to use and probably the most popular GPS atm. Due to it not being a PDA and designed only for satnav it is much faster. The New Tom Tom GO will support full postcode search which you advised that you where looking for.

Angry

Hin thought you all might like to know this

Hi just to let you know this is what it cant
do if this is what you want then you decide as personally
i was going to buy this product too until i seen this, in answer to
your question i would say yes it does but doent do these things as
low internal memory. message it too short that is the reason for this
ason of the cut-down is the internal memory on a hp rz1710.
We do not have any updates to make features as traffic camera database and postal code possible.
The only reason why the 1710 navigation is a cut down version is because 1710 is a very
limited PDA and TomTom produced a version especially for 1710.
With best regards,
TomTom support team

.

Thanks[/quote]
