Default Canada Maps

Sorry I am new to this product... but I am planning on buying TomTom GO 300 but I will need to use it in Canada as well as the UK.

Support from TomTom said this is possible but I would need to buy the maps.
Can someone tell me please,
  1. Where can I purchase the canada map (assuming the TT I buy is European)
  2. What format will they come in
  3. How easy is it to change from UK to Canada
  4. Do I need more than comes with the package if I want detailed street level data
  5. Finally, my research shows that there is a firmware/software? update just realeased. When are product likely to be shipped with this latest version pr-installed. In other words should I wait a few weeks or will it take much longer for them to get through into the system.

Welcome to our forums.
1) I guess you'll get them from TomTom as they have never sold Canadian maps in the UK before, at least as far as I'm aware.
2) Probably on SD card.
3) Should be as simple as swapping SD cards.
4) I shouldn't think so as the maps supplied should already be street level.
5) It should take maybe a few weeks after the update was released for TomTom to start shipping retail units with the new version. Although most retailers will still have stock with old versions which will obviously be sold first.

Hi there,

I used to have TTN3 running on my IPAQ and had the maps for USA & Canada. I've just upgraded to TTN5 and upgraded the USA & Canada maps as well but not installed them as yet.

I'm pretty certain that you should be able to buy these from the Tomtom site although you may have to buy maps of the USA as well. The USA maps could be loaded either by states or certain groups of states - I think Canada came as one map.

It worked really well and navigated me all around the west coast across 4-5 states without problem.

Good luck.

Neil.

If you visit the TomTom site and select Plus Services then Maps there are various options available. You can buy the whole of the USA & Canada on CD, SD Card or download or just the areas you are intersted in.

The CD version is available from various UK sites do a google search.

You will need a bigger SD Card, as Canada takes about 89Mb. Copy all files from your original card to the new one, you may need to activate your UK Map.

Then copy the Canada map onto the card into its folder called Canada.

Using the menus navigate to Switch Maps and your new map of Canada should be an option. Again you may have to activate it using the code supplied.
