Default Updating maps on my TOM TOM Go 700

Hi, total newbie to all this, I have had my Tom tom go 700 for over 6 months now, and I wanted to make sure I have the latest maps on it. I went to the TOM TOM site and it would appear that I have to buy the maps to get a later set ? is this correct ? surely if I have bought and registered my Tom Tom with them I should be entitled to updates to the maps?

T.I.A for any help you can offer.

Mart

I think you do have to buy map upgrades. I'm in the same boat. Surely they're available online somewhere, though.

I would think the maps are almost identical to what you have, and would be no different.

TomTom really need to factor into the purchse price map updates.

I wonder how map feedback is handled. I've been on two cloverleafs that were wrong within the last week. I submitted them both.. but I guess nobody knows how long it will take tele atlas to fix.

Well the maps are already 12 months out of date at launch. Whether this is the way tele atlas work, or the (cheaper) option to make portable sat nav affordable.

Personally I'd like to see free updates to purchased maps for 12 months, then maybe a modest ongoing subscription service to ensure maps are as close to reality as possible.

Do a lot of traveling in London, and many roads have changed to no entry, one way, change one way direction etc etc. Navigation *can* be a nightmare some times.

Just spent a fruitless month arguing with TomTom support about the latest UK map release.
In the ZIP file that is supplied to update with the files are dated 2005.
Only answer I got to the question was that I was wrong.

Onto eBay for the TomTom as a major ring road in Leicester opened 7 years ago is still marked as under construction so it's a waste of money renewing the maps.
