TomTom Western Europe maps question

I have a Treo 650, a GlobalSat BT-338 GPS and am thinking about buying TomTom Navigator 5 and the Western Europe maps package. On TomTom's site they list 'Map of the Alps region' for $40. I need to know if this map is included as a sub-set of their Western Europe map package, or if it is a separate map altogether.
The Alps region map is only 224 mb, while the individual countries that I need (France, Switzerland, Italy) would require a total of more than 1 gig of space (I was told by TomToms tech support that I have to load an entire map, not able to load just the areas that I need). I am assuming the Map of the Alps region maps are also street level maps, is this correct?

The file sizes quoted on the tomtom site, for each country, are a bit misleading. You'll notice all the maps, except Alps Region, include the major roads of Europe. You only really need one MRE on your card, but if you download Street level maps only, I think you should get France, Switzerland, Italy and the Alps regions on a 1GB card, possibly GB too. e.g. I have GB, GB Post Code and France Plus maps and they use 459MB. Just over 200MB for GB and about 350 for France plus.

It may be worth checking if your device will work with a 2GB card.

Western Europe maps package.

This product allows you to download the seven individual maps of Great Britain, DE AT CH PL CZ, France, Italy, Iberia, Benelux and Scandinavia. All of these maps are detailed regional maps connected to the Western European major road network.

The Alps region appears to be extra as the software comes with only seven of the eight maps.

Thanks. It sounds like I need to buy the TomTom Navigator 5 with the Western Europe Maps package PLUS the Alps Region in order for the Alps Region to work. Is that right?
If so, I'll be spending $204 + $40. Is there a cheaper way to get mapping software of Western Europe on my Treo?

I don't think there is. e.g. If you purchased the GB maps and France map, you would save a few Euros but should you want to add the Italy map, the total cost would exceed the Full set.

TTN6 is due out fairly soon so it may be worth waiting to see if the stores try to shift TTN5, at a cheaper price, to get them off their shelves.
