Default "No usable locations near GPS position"

probably a very stupid question but here goes...
  • I have a TomTom 520 and recently downloaded USA/canada maps.
  • i have switched maps to test before i go on my hols but when i enter any location in mavigate to i get error message appear "No usable locations near GPS position"
  • does this normally happen if using the USA map in the UK or have i problems with my map???

To plan routes use the AtoB option which will work while you have the USA map selected, or go to Browse map poition the cursor where you want it and press the Find button, this should then locate POI for you - Mike

cheers for the quick response
Tried that and it finds locations on map ok.
I take it that the GPS locations will only actually work when i arrive in the USA rather than trying it from the UK??

atleast i am happy that my maps loaded ok.

That's correct your current GPS position should be well off the US map boundaries.

Just to add, once in the USA you will find the 'time to first fix' will take some while, leave it outside, no hang on, USA! take it outside under an unobstructed sky and wait. It may take 10-15-20 minutes or more, once done it will be faster next time, unless you don't use it for several days.
