Question Tom Tom GO Postcode POIs

Greetings all, new chap here
OK, so my TTG arrives Thursday (with luck) - I have been doing some reading up on full postcodes and the POI 'solution'. I have downloaded the postcode POI files from pocketgps.co.uk and was going to do the following:
  1. Get a bigger SD card
  2. Convert ovl files to asc using WinOV2
  3. Join the asc files together to create fewer (one??) to get around the 81 files limit
  4. Convert the big asc file(s) to inv and import as per instructions.
I'm assuming that I will then have access to all full postcodes as POIs.
Has anyone else done this?
Is there any benefit to keeping it as a few slightly smaller files rather than one huge one?

Many thanks,
Tim

Welcome to our forums.
I have to say I've never tried it but I guess one large file "should" be easier to read than several small. Let us know what your thoughts are if you try it.

Well I'll give it a shot. If it does work OK would there be any issues with me making the resulting file available or would that be treading on the original author's toes?

By the way I created consolidated postcode files. You can get them at http://www.timodonnell.co.uk/ttg

If you have v5** map then you do not need the postcode POI's.

You can get the Postcodes from http://www.tomtom.com/updates/great_britainpostal_all.zip

(Incidentaly it is in a folder called "zip" (as in American zipcodes), it's NOT a compressed zip file)

You will need firmware version 5.xx to use the postcodes.
