Default Tomtom500

Hi

I bought a tomtom 500 at the weekend, and managed to figure out how to use it to get me home from the shops

I have downloaded some voices from the net, and I am really struggling to upload them to the tomtom. I plug in the USB cable to the device, and a screen appears showing the back of the tomtom and a wire going into the back of it. I can't switch it on at this point. Because it's not switched on, the computer doesn't recognise it and I can't upload the voices

Where am I going wrong?

Thanks

have you check in my computer on your desk top it will show either as an icon of the tomtom or a removable device if it is showing the screen with the tomtom and the usb cable going into the back of it, it sounds like it connected to me.

open my computer
double click on the tomtom
copy and paste your voices files to the voice folder

What version of windows are you running? The window you get may be the pc installing the driver as per XP facility. The pc will only connect if it has the relavent driver.

I am running windows XP. When I open my computer the tomtom isn't recognised as a device with removable storage, it's almost as if it's not plugged in.

Do any other USB items work in your pc, if not you may not have the correct drivers installed? Also are you using front port usb? if it isnt working try the ones at the back of the pc for connection.

I have found the cable connection tempermental. Try hold the tomtom and hold the usb connecter in the back of it. Give your pc 20 secs to try connect with the tomtom.

Make sure the USB cable has gone right home on the tomtom, I had this trouble detecting it until I found it needs an extra push into the tomtom.

Other than that as said earlier, Is your USB working ok on the PC.
