TomTom 500, ive got the map files, do i just copy them onto it?

hi all,

My neighbours asked me (as he has no PC) if i can upgrade his TomTom 500 with the latest UK maps, he has no idea how to do it and well ive never used a tomtom before.

Hes given me the maps on a cd but there just a bunch of files ending in ov2 and other extensions.

Do i just copy these over onto his SD card? i dont want to mess his TomTom up!

The UK maps on the CD will be the same as on his 500 at the mo. TomTom have not updated them so far for any v5 variant

Oh right, hes insisting his friend has got some upgraded ones, i think his tomtom is about 2 half years old, would this be correct that none have been released in this time?

Navigator 5 came out last year. Likely he's using v4.x

As for the upgrade proceedure between v4 and 5, not sure. You're likey to need the software AND maps.

What ever you do BACKUP before your do anything! If things go wrong, simply delete it all, and copy everything back.

So Navigator 5 can be ran on a tomtom 500 with no problems? How do i backup? just make a copy of all the files on the tomtom or doi need to use any kind of software to do so? sorry for the silly questions!

Make sure you can see all fils, and none are hidden. Then copy these to th PC.

If you need to copy them back, make sure you replace ALL files if prompted

I have tomtom go 300 and have downloaded france map anyone know how i can add these to the sd card i have tried to copy and paste them to the sd card with now luck at all

You need to create/copy the french maps folder, and place all the files there. Then start TomTom and then chenge the map using change prefs> change map.
