Hi,

Can someone explain where I find the Firmware Version for my 700 and what it actually means?

It generally means which version of the software your running.

On the map screen tap the 5 blue bars that show signal strength to go to the summary screen. The version number is shown at the bottom right.

If you download tomtom home from the tomtom website it will automatically update tomtom to the latest version whenever updates are available.
