Unhappy Frozen start up

Hi everybody

I hope one or some of you may be able to help as I really don't want to get rid of my 4 month old 720.

The problem is that the item has come to a stop.

I will briefly outline what I get with start up whenout of the dock and start up in the dock.

OUT OF DOCK
I switch the item on and get the Tom Tom name and the roll of drums.
The screen then goes to a Green colour and shows the TOm Tom in the top left hand corner and what looks to be a hard drive icon in the bottom right hand corner. I am not able to switch off except by resetting at the bottom with the paperclip.

IN DOCK
When I place the item in the dock and then switch on the item connects to TOM TOM home and on the TOM TOM screen comes the TOM TOM in the hand with a Red cross and also showing an hour gless telling me to please wait.

It stays like this for hours until I remove the item from the dock and then reset it again.

In the 4 months I have had the item it has worked brilliantly but had to go back to TOM TOM HQ for this exact reason.

It was returned as showing NO FAULT FOUND and did work again for 2 days and then went back to the condition it was before. I had tried to update the item in the days when I had got it back to bring it up to date and then added my phone and all was working brilliantly and the the following morning........... an absolute stop with the conditions mentioned.

I have contacted TOM TOM again and asked them to ring me but they have not responded to the questions history thread.

If anyone out there can get me started I really would appreciate your help.

I am reasonably PC savvy.

Thanks everyone

Brian

Brian,

EXACT same problem here. Have you tried accessing the TomTom internal drive from windows explorer? I left my SD card in, connected it to my computer and closed TomTom Home. I found I could access the SD card but NOT the internal drive. Couldn't explore it, couldn't format it. Nothing. Gave up and have posted it back to www.totalpda.co.uk. I am hoping that there is not a fundamental flaw in the design of the TomTom and that a new unit gets to me before I go on holiday which was one of the main reasons for getting it in the first place

Let me know how you get on.

Stuart

Unhappy

Hi Stuart

Thanks for the reply and sorry to see another user struggling with this.

When this item works it is just the real deal but when it stops there seems to be nowhere to go for help.

I have tried what you suggested but I am unable to access the tom tom from the "my computer" screen. It sees it as a removable drive but will not open it up.

To be honest I don't know where to go next. I have asked around locally to see if there are any sat nav techies out there but am informed that none exist because information is not freelly given out and looks to be something of a closed shop.

I would happily buy another unit to get me back on the road .......... but to be fair, why should I ?, this is only 4 months old and hardle used !!!!!

thanks anyway.... and have a nice holiday

Brian
