Default TomTom5 no longer working

Hi

I have TomTom5 on an HTC mobile phone that has been working fine for 6+months

The one day I get an error message so I have resintalled TT5 which ran through to completionn. I ran the cab file on the memory card.

Now that I have done this, when I start I accept the legal agreement and it then takes me to a screen saying that it cant locate any maps even though I can see them on the card. I hav switched off blue tooth as I read elsewhere that can cause a problem but its still doing the same thing.

Can anyone help me on this?

Thanks David

Delete the maps on the card, and uninstall all TTN on the PDA itself, start again by loading all on the SD memory and install from there. Do not ask me why this happens but I have had this before and had to do it 3 times before it decided to work again, weird

Dont delete the maps if your TT install came on SD card, as you'll loose it all!

Only do so if you have the data and Maps CDs as well as the product code card.

yes ofcourse dont delete if you have them on a SD card only, I assumed that you would have a back-up on your PC or on a CD/DVD. PLease make sue that you get that done first. card reades are cheap as chips as are memory, a 4GB are nxt to nothing and you can load music and film onto it. I have lost of compressed DVD's on my 4GB card, the HTC (TytnII) is great for films with headphones.

Hi

So let me double check what is being said here...

I backup/copy all TT files off the memory card, unistall TT on the PDA. Then put all the data back on the card, and then reinstall.

Willing to give it a try but not sure I see why this would make any difference? Have I misunderstood what is being suggested.

Thanks David

Hi

I did what was suggested...

copied contents of memory card to my PC
deleted TT5 off my PDA
cleared and reformatted my card (there was an unrelated folder that seemed to be corrupted)
copied files back onto card
put card back in PDA
it recognised and installed TT5 by itself

When i fired up tt5 it asked me to accept legal agreements then moved to a map screen where it still says no maps. Does the earlier thread suggest I keep repeating this and it may eventually work?

If I look at the maps directory it is called "GB plus major roads of WE" - it is 211MB of data so I assume this is the maps. How can I check if these files are all present - i dont have the original installation material.

Any suggestions on what I might do next?

Thanks David

I dont know why that was suggested as a fix. You also have to be very carefull as some important files are hidden - so unless you tell your PC to show them, you could loose them in a format!

I suspect the PDA cant read the card or the map file for some reason. Happens on my HP, and I remove the card, blow in the SD slot, card back in and when TT starts all is well.

If you have a second legit SD card copy the files to that and try again. One of the files on the card should be called activation.txt, and you will have 3 files all called the same in your maps folder. One will be great_britain.cfg. Ensure you have a backup, then delete the CFG file and start TT.

The CFG file carrys all the settings/favourites and will be recreated. If this works, then you can recover your favs from the old file using apps such as POIedit or POIview

Hi

As I had reformatted my memory card I decided to bite the bullet and bought an as-new copy of TT6 from ebay. But it is on a different memory card type.

So am trying to copy the files from this memory card to my PC and then onto my origina card.

I am getting a

"Cannot copy file: cannot read from the source file or disk"

I actually recall this message with my original card when I tried to copy and think i overcame it by copying individual files - now I have exposed all the system files as well it doesnt want to copy them all.

I cant believe I have purchased a corrupt memort card so must be some protection/settings. Anyone any idea how i might overcome this???

Thanks David

Hi

So further to earlier email I have been trying to pin this down and essentially there are two folders that refuse to be copied giving the error message above:

TomTom HOME Install.app
zip

These seem to contain files with very strange characters.

So am i stuffed ? Am i unable to copy/backup these files to an mmc card that fits????

Thanks David
