Help!!

I recently purchased a dell axim x5 complete with tomtom3.
I have been able to download the nav software onto the palmpc but when I try to install the big uk map (onto a memory card, 128M, enough space) via my pc, it starts to download (i.e. you can see the paper flying from poc icon to palmpc icon) about 17-20% in my desktop just shuts down!

Running win xp service pack 2, no viruses.

I'm really pulling my hair out now - any ideas?
