ive just purchasted tomtom bluetooth wireless gps, although ive paired the ipaq with the qps receiver , the gps screen is still showing as in relaible and ther eis no data on the GPS screen

any ideas about the setting i mayneed to change

Welcome to our forums.
You will need to make sure your TomTom is v3.07 and you will then have to setup the receiver in GPS Status.

look at the IPAQ 'desktop' and click on the small icon at the bottom right indicating bluetooth setting, make sure u pair it up there and then turn it 'on'
first time I did what u appear to have done and the GPS hunted for an hour, got fed up and played about and found this, took a minute for it to hook up. I always switch the GPS on/off this way and it works fine.
