Would somebody be kind enough to remind me...how do I choose/select between the quickest route or the shortest route...it really annoys me sometimes , knowing that there is no way that the M25 is the 'best' route when I'm on it. It's like going from Portsmouth/Southampton 'up North'...nobody in their right mind would go A3, M25, M1 as TT insists...M3, A34,
M40 etc. is the way most sensible people go ....seems that TT has a mind of its own....and as for the number of 'missing' highways I've come across, and not that new either....(how long has the M6 toll been open ?) and the A43 around Silverstone ? And how on earth they have the name of my street totally wrong I really can't work out ! If TT really is the recommended 'best buy', I'm glad I didn't purchase any of the others. Are regular updates readily available ? I was thinking of going for a hand held device as well, for out walking in the LakeDistrict but based on my experience on the road, I don't think that I'd like to rely on sat nav up on top of Helvellyn....who knows where I would end up....or have I missed a trick somewhere ??

You can change the routing in the PROPERTIES menu under ADVANCED then ROUTE PLANNING.
Updates become available when TomTom release them, you can keep up to date about releases by registering on their site for their newsletter. TomTom don't create the maps, the are licenced from comapnies like Tele-Atlas who provide the map data to comapnies such as TomTom for use in their software..
You can visit http://support.tomtom.com/register/r...NjYWxpLmNvLnVr and report errors you find in the map.

For an idea of how the map data gets compiled have a read of the article @ http://www.pocketgpsworld.co.uk/navteq.php .

"Fast" refers to the calculation time so it will only calculate routes along major roads etc to keep the calculation time down.

"Normal" is the middle ground between the two options.

"Strict" calculation can take a long time, especially on long distances. This option exhaustively checks every little alley in case it provides a short-cut that will reduce your trip by some extra seconds or meters.
