New integrated PDA/GPS (it's the Mio).
Installed Active Sync on the PC and this communication is OK. I am running XP with SP2.
Put the TomTom CD in the drive, typed in the product key, did not want stuff connecting to the internet so selected option to block the internet connection and register the software later.
30 mins later became annoyed that this software was still trying to install, as I did not beleive that it could take that long.
Task Manager showed me that nothing was happening. Process tab showed that CPU was not running anything under setup.exe
Aborted and went away for three days working.
Tried it again, doesn't ask me for the product key or re-configuring COM1 (why would I want to use COM1 which is in use by something else?)
So - it won't install when trying to use the wizard.
Any suggestions?
I am aware that something must be in the registry as setup no longer asks for product key. |

| | | Hi I've got the same problem. I had it all installed but my ipaq reset its self and when I tried to install it all again all I get is the flying folders screen and nothing happeneing. I also haven't been asked for the key number so you may be onto something there.
I've heard that you can only install it once which can't be the case, but its a worry.
Have you looked in the registry |

Well I didn't get too lost today those paper maps are great things! What about you guys and luck with Tom Tom
I've had no word from Tom Tom or Expansys the company I bought the software from. Spoke to Ipaq who suggested I re-install active sync - done that still flying folders all over the place. One thing I thought Macafee priavcy check I use was stopping the ipaq from conecting, it was but didn't solve the bigger problem, is that's any use to anyone.
Someone out there must know what to do

| | | Hi Sarah, Westender
No response from reseller - e-mailed them last Tuesday and Sunday
No response from TomTom
Had to manage with paper maps in Holland last week
Will have to manage with paper in france this week.
This is why I have not had to fake loosing my temper on the phone.
THAT will happen on Friday - if I have had no helpful e-mail by then.
I may do a few stupid things, but I'm not stupid. I may not get it right first time but this is faulty product, i read the instructions and followed them. With Install Wizards this is not rocket science - and any system should allow you a second chance to install.
I will keep in touch. I have also been trying on the forums at pocketgps.co.uk but can not check the results this evening as their site is down. |

| | For those who are using WinXP, do a System Restore to a date previous to the day you first installed TomTom and any registry entried etc should be removed then you should be able to try the install again. |

| | | Hi Charlie
Thanks for the idea. I guess it would work if my PC would allow me to go back into December. Its sod's law but the last restore date I can access is the day after I installed Tom Tom!! I am not sure about editing the registry but happy to give it a go especially if it gets this working again. Any other ideas on how to remove Tom Tom from the registry please and why is it such an issue for Tom Tom? Sarah and GJT
This link may help if your on XP and not sure about system restore it was new to me! http://www.microsoft.com/resources/d...nderstand.mspx
Also quite a good wizzard help in XP help - sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs.

| | If it were me then I would just search the registry for entries such as "tomtom" and/or "navigator" or anything else related and delete the keys for them, be aware though that I am not recommending you do this as it may make things worse. Always make a registry backup before you do anything. | |
