Default GPS Altitude information

Can information from a TOM TOM GPS reciever connected to a HP PDA be transfered to a software program to get altitude information.
All the software programs to do this do not see the gps receiver even though it says its on COM1. NO information is given reference baud rate etc.
Any help on set up or alternative programs would be helpful

Thanks for the reply
I am trying to use a freeware program called GPSdash. This is supposed to take gps info and display relevant information.
To connect it needs to know com ports baud rate etc.
I know the gps is on com1 as this is how its set in tom tom but GPSDASH says it cannot connect to com1, as I assume the tom tom gps has already locked this out?
Is there any other way of obtaining data from the gps not via tom tom

If GPSdash is running on the PDA with TomTom you will need to download and install TomToms GPS driver v2.07 as it was the last version that didn't lock the port.

You can get v2.07 from http://www.griffinnet.co.uk/downloads.htm as well as every other version. It shouldn't cause any problems.

Thanks for the advice. This works well. The gps can now pass information onto GPSDash.
This program can be found at http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php under gps programs. The setting need tinkering with but after two attempts got the interface to work. Would suggest a full backup before loading tom tom gps v2.07 as this locked my pda and only a hard reset would work. If anybodys got any other good gps information programs let me know.
