Default Tom Tom with Bluetooth, slower?

I have just upgraded from an old pedal powered HP Jornado PDA with wired satnav receiver to an HP ipaq rx 3715 with a Holux GR231 Bluetooth satnav receiver.

Although I have only just gone out for a trial run it seems to react slower than the old one. Is this my imagination or do I have to get used to this. I was expecting it to be at least as quick. On the road it seems that I am 50 yards further back which can be a bit of a problem!

Any input would be appreciated.

Welcome to our forums.
ON average how many satellites are you getting connected to with the new system? Are you able to compare it to the Jornada system in the same way?

Hi Charlie, thanks for the reply.

I've probably been a bit hasty as I only had a quick try out last night and I wasn't able to get the PDA dash mount to stay in place so it was a bit fraught to start with.
Also I was using the Holux unit on the dashboard which means it was working through a "metalised" windscreen so it is surprising it was working at all. I didn't think to check how many satellites it found but I can get six good bars up sitting in my office.
Tonight I'll put it on the rear parcel shelf where the old receiver lived. This will give a fairer comparison. It will be good if it does work through the front screen as this is much easier to access. I'll let you know.

One thing you may be able to help me with, do I have to "connect" to the PDA each time I switch on or is there a way to "pair" the unit to the Ipaq 3715 automatically as with a mobile phone. Its a bit of a nuisance, particularly having to explain it all to my wife who would like to use it too.

Thanks again
TonyZ

Further to my post above I would like to give an update.

The Holux Bluetooth satnav reciever does work on the dash despite the car having a metalised windscreen. Reception is reasonably good, but satellite pick- up is not as good as on the rear parcelshelf or under the sun roof. As it has to be switched on it is easiest to use it under the s/r, if not possible then rear parcel shelf would be best although a pain in a two door car. For quick access on short journeys, on the dash will work.

I still haven't sussed whether the Holux can be paired with the Ipaq instead of having to connect each time, and there are a few other issues that bluetooth seems to have. However overall I am very pleased with the setup and glad that I went the Bluetooth route.

It would be remiss of me not to add that the service from www.totalpda.co.uk was excellent.

Thanks
TonyZ

Glad you liked our service. You can pair the receiver in Bluetooth Manager by tapping on TOOLS --> PAIRED DEVICES.
