Default TOMTOM Navigator Startup

Hi there,

I have recently purchased an ipaq with tomtom navigator. After setting it all up, i find that it takes quite a while to receive the GPS signal (sometimes 15 - 20 minutes). I was wondering if this is normal or if i can do anything to speed up the process.

Many thanks in anticipation

Welcome to our forums.
This should only happen the first few times you use it, afterwards it should get a fix much quicker although this is if it's used on a regular basis. If it's once in a blue moon then it will take that long each time.

Many thanks for your response. I have been using the system for approx. 2 weeks on a daily basis. Sometimes (50%) it starts instantaneously however other times it still takes 20 minutes?? Is there anything that i can do? My system is the HP Ipaq 1710 satnav bundle.

Many thanks

Mines the same, had it for over a Year and it still has a mind of it's own, sometimes it's good as Gold and other I have to do 2/3 soft resets.
I my opinion its the big disapointment with Tomtom, I won't go on about it on this forum as I have mentioned problems many times. I was advised my members of Total PDA to NOT buy the Bluetooth version and instead go for the wire type.
Should have listened.

You don't say wether you have a wired or wireless version lupos0_1 but you could maybe try the receiver in another position in the vehicle....just to try.

Sorry, should have mentioned that it is the wired version. I'll try to move the receiver to another position. Would you recommend in the centre of ther dashboard or towards 1 side?? (or does it depend on different circumstances).

Many thanks

Ps. I have a Peugeot 307 (If that makes any difference)

It shouldnt really make a difference but I guess in the centre would be best. I'm sure all the X07 range have heated/coated windscreens which causes problems with GPS receivers. Try the receiver in another spot.

HoORAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

It turns out that the Peugeot 307 does have a coated windscreen and this is what causes the problem.

For anybody else in the future, if you purchase a sat nav for the 307, please put the receiver on top of your rear view mirror. This solves the problem.

Many thanks Charlie!!!!!!!!!!!!
