TomTom Navigator 3 + Checkpoint Speed Camera Install

This is NOT for the HP package version of TomTom.

Download Checkpoint and sound files from http://checkpoint.oabsoftware.nl/body-download.htm and save them to a location on your hard drive (My Documents for example).
Download the Safety Camera Database from http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/uksafetycameras.php and save to the same location.

Connect your PDA to your PC and make sure there is an Activesync connection.
Using Windows Explorer on the PC, browse to the location you saved the downloads to.
Launch the checkpoint .exe file and follow the prompts to have Checkpoint installed onto your PDA.
Extract the contents of the sound files zip to a location on your hard drive ( My Documents/soundfiles/ for example) then select all the files and COPY.
Go to Activesync on your PC and click on the EXPLORE button found on the toolbar. An Explorer window will launch. Double click on MY POCKET PC the PROGRAM FILES then CHECKPOINT then right click and select PASTE. If you get prompted with a box about COPY & PASTE just click OK.
Go to the location you saved the Safety camera database and extract it also ( My Documents/speedcamera/ for example) then select the .bmp and .ov2 files for the cameras you want to use then right click and COPY.
Go back to the Explorer window that was opened by Activesync and navigate to the STORAGE CARD /CF CARD/SD CARD folder (depends on what type of card you are using) then double click on the map folder for TomTom (Great Britain Navigator for example) then right click and select PASTE.


This completes the installation section, next on to the configuration.

Disconnect your PDA from your PC and tap on START  CHECKPOINT (if it’s not there then tap on PROGRAMS and it should be in there) and the program will load. Tick the box after you have read and agreed to the Disclaimer then tap OK in the top right of the screen. Checkpoint is now running and can be seen as an icon in the lower right of the screen. You tap on this icon to change settings etc. Tap on the icon then tap on GENERAL SETTINGS, change BUTTON FOR RECORDING POI to your preference ( we use the Contacts button) then tick the two boxes. These mean that in future when you load Checkpoint it will automatically load TomTom and when you exit TomTom it will close Checkpoint.
Tap OK on the top right to save these settings then tap on the Checkpoint icon again. This time tap on the INTERNATIONAL SETTINGS and then select your language and unit of measurement. Tap OK in the top right to save the settings.
Tap on the Checkpoint icon and then tap on OVERLAY SETTINGS. Tap on the + sign to the left of NOT SYNCHRONIZED and you will see listings for the camera types you selected earlier. Highlight each one in turn and tap on PROPERTIES. On the DETECTION tab tick the box for DETECT POIS FROM THIS OVERLAY then select the angle you would like to detect at ( we use 45 degrees). Tap on the FIRST WARNING tab and tick the GIVE FIRST WARNING box then select the time before the POI you would like to be alerted ( we leave it at 30 secs) then tap the “…” button and tap on the PROGRAM FILES folder then the CHECKPOINT folder then tap on the sound file you would like to use ( we use only the 30 sec and 10 sec Speedcamera files). Tap on the SPEED tab on the right of the FIRST WARNING tab then tap on the LAST WARNING tab on the right of that and repeat the previous steps to enable that warning and assign the sound file. Tap OK near the top right but not the one in the corner. Now repeat these steps for any other cameras types you have selected.
Once they are all done you can tap OK.
Tap on the Checkpoint icon and select EXIT.

From now on when you launch Checkpoint from the START menu or the PROGRAMS folder TomTom will automatically launch and when you are finished and close TomTom via the EXIT APPLICATION button in the menu then Checkpoint will close as well.

The last thing to do is enable the POIs in TomTom.
Launch TomTom from the START menu or PROGRAMS folder then tap on the screen to open the menu then tap on MORE twice then tap on PROPERTIES. Tap on the POI tab then scroll down the list till you find the “pocketgps” POIs and tick their boxes to turn them on. Tap OK in the top right of the screen, Tap on the arrow found in the top left of the Navigator screen and select MAP from the menu. If you scroll around the map you should see icons for the location of the cameras.
