Default Tomtom 3 & Dell X5 - Problems with CF storage of Maps

Hi everyone.

I have just gotten a Tomtom 3 wired setup on my Dell Axim X5. I have a 256Mb SD card which works fine for the local maps (up to 64Mb), however I am going on holiday soon and I want to take the whole of Germany, the major roads of Europe and Northern Italy with me and I figure I will need at least 500Mb. Now, I currently also have 3 Scandisk CF cards, 2*256 and 1*512 however any time I put a map on one of these CF cards tomtom will either not start at all, or work for a short time and then lock up. If I remove the CF card and go back to the map on the SD card everything works perfectly.
My questions are.
1) Is there a reason why my CF cards don't work?
2) Assuming I need to get a new card, what should I get (type, make etc).

Thank is advance for any help.

Regards, Barry

Welcome to our forums.
Install the UK map on to the CF card and test it that way...remove the SD card while you are doing this. Let me know if it works.

Hi Charlie
I did as you suggested and it seemed to work fine, but as soon as I tried it with the SD card in (still using the map on the CF card), it crashed Tomtom. Well, at least I have a workaround which doesn't involve rushing out and buying a 512Mb SD card, but is there a better solution which would allow me to use the CF card for maps while still having the SD card in?
Could it be that my current CF cards (Sandisk 256 & 512 blue label) are too slow, and if so, what would you recommend?

Thanks

Barry

It should work OK as long as you have the maps on one card only...if you have maps on both cards it may cause problems.
