XDA Tom Tom 3 wired

Help please
I have an XDA 2 and purchase Tom Tom 3, The Tom Tom loaded OK. However whenever plug in the connection cables and switch it on i get the message "cannot open COM1 port does not exist"
I thought these were plug and go systems. None of the manuals have any info to help. Can anyone help

Tap on START --> SETTINGS --> CONNECTIONS --> BEAM then untick the the box.
