Default Tom Tom Navigator 3 Reinstall

I am really nervous, and need some encouragement! A piece of 'free' magazine software has managed to corrupt my TT...the developers have said that a hard reset is the only option left. Please...what am I letting myself in for ? I have the TT software including an 'update' CD. Shall I just 'go for it' or are there words of wisdom out there before I take up the challenge...(ie do's and dont's) Thanks, Mike.

Just go for it, to reinstall make sure you have your original TT CD and product code and also get the latest upgrade off their website.
Hard reset, then install your original CD first and make sure it's working then install the update and all should be fine.

Hi Mike, I have had to do a hard reset a few times in the past due to using some experimental software (and accidently not charging my PDA for over two weeks). Its a bit of a pain if you have loads of software that you installed on, but if you have all the original software used, its just a matter of reinstalling it all. Charlies advice needs to be noted as well.

I would just make a list of all the stuff you had on there and then do the hard reset.

I cannot remember if i had to take the card out or not, but im sure you can if you want to. The main programs are installed directly onto your PDAs memory rather than aditional cards. The maps are on the card and dont have to be reinstalled.

Out of interest, what was the free software?

You can leave the card in, when the TomTom installer asks you to go online to register say no, then register manually if required.

Thanks, one and all...My right arm (TT3), is now back up and running well. All other installed programs seem also to be running fine....as long as I don't do a soft reset, 'cause then I get two messages, 1.Cannot find 'Programme Files' Make sure the path and filename are correct and all required libraries are availabale' and 2, IPAQ backup.Failed to create the default settings.
So I will try to limit soft resets so I don't get them ! Again thanks (What eventually did was just remove TT from the 'Remove programs' and then just reinstalled..hence no hard reset.)

Just my thoughts but if if was my system and I were getting those errors I would hard reset and install from scrath as you never know what my crop up next. The first error indicates something has gone wrong with the location/shortcuts that are pointing to the PROGRAM FILES folder which is where most if not all your applications will go.

To be frank, I bow to your expertise ! Bluetooth is completely screwed up, and now AvantGo warning messages, but if I can keep going until I get back from holiday in a couple of weeks time......please confirm my back up worries.
1. The card I 'm not worried about...I'll just take it out.(Or should I ?)
2. I did a 'complete' back up using ActiveSync last night, but surely that backs up all the errors as well ?
3. I can now sync to Outlook so at least I won't lose my contacts, calendar etc. I assume that it will work the other way after the hard reset ?
4. I have many, many Word folders on my PDA....what's the easiest way to back up, and then reinstall them as they are now ?
5. I assume that I will have to reinstall all my various dial up numbers again ?

I think you can tell that I'm nervous about this....so any other input , really would be gratefully accepted !! Thanks again to all.
