Question Navigator 5 with European Maps?

Target: Buy a cost effective European Navigation system for Dell Axim X50V

It appears that if I buy TT Navigator 5 kit with Bluetooth, I get one country map, but if buy a Navigator 3 version and upgrade for €59 I get all major European maps. I primarily need a good GPS system with Italian/France maps.

Is this correct, and therefore to get European maps I should:
1. Buy Nav 5 GB and then buy the European GO? maps for €189?
2. Buy Nav 3 and upgrade for €59?
3. Find a Nav 5 version with European maps?
4. Find an similar Bluetooth GPS + good European maps?

Advice appreciated.
Thanks...

i.e. tomtom description at http://www.tomtom.com/news/category....148&Language=1

~TomTom NAVIGATOR 5 Features Most Up To Date European Map Data Available Anywhere

Customers who upgrade will receive a CD map set of the following countries:
  • Great Britain, Germany, Austria and Switzerland, Italy, France +++
Tried emailing/phoning Tomtom, now wondering if they are still in business!

Yeah i'm also considering buying TT3 and upgrading as an overal cheaper option.

What did you decide in the end?

Very confusing... Bought TTN5 even though Tomtom on 13 June reported that it wasn't available...

"Please note that only the upgrade to Navigator 5 is possible at the moment, requiring that you already own a copy of Navigator. If you wish to purchase the Bluetooth Navigation package with Navigator 5, this is not available yet so buying ... shouldn't be possible as there is no stock.

Please note that upgrading from Navigator 3 to Navigator 5 will result in receiving Maps of Western Europe also, but if you were to purchase Navigator 5 new, Maps of Western Europe would have to be bought separately.

With best regards,

The TomTom Customer Support Team"

But I got it TTN5 today... Although Major Routes of Europe are supposed to be available, I'm still trying to find/activate them. I also tried to get full European maps on their web site but cannot find them...

So far I've had to soft reset my Dell X50V on exiting the application after running it for 30 minutes (in the kitchen!).

Where's the competition, there must be a better alternative than this nonsense...

So far without getting it to the car, I am not impressed (2/10).

i am affraid that tomtom have not released the Euro Maps for TT5 yet, there is a lot of information being passed about that tomtom will be support Navteq maps and teleatlas, this might be what the hold up is.

Thanks Stevie. Tomtom obviously don't need customers...

On your own product specification, and many others selling Tomtom Navigator 5 Bluetooth Kit, it clearly states:

- Includes major roads in Europe

Yet on the SD I got there are only GB maps.
I unfortunately won't be needing the GB maps.
I bought it with a view to immediately paying/downloading European maps (but there don't seem to be on the website). The TT Plus only allows city map downloads.

Yet if I'd bought TT Navigator 3, I could have updated to all Western European maps on the Tomtom site for €59 + P&P (and wait for up to 5 weeks for delivery!!!).

Lesson learned: Don't buy TTN5 Bluetooth if you want to use in European OR if your PDA is a Dell X50V (3 hangs in a few hours).
Based on my experience, I'd recommend avoidance of Tomtom. It seems they have bitten off too much with TTN5, and have a serious dose of either 'dotcom' greed or incompetence.

Hi,
Had I read this thread at the time, I wouldn't now have a Tomtom Navigator 5 with just the UK Maps.

Like you, I contacted Tomtom Support and got the same useless emails about European Maps.

Stupid Question - If TomTom GO customers get the European Maps and also get a device to iuse them, why not TomTom Navigator customers who provide their own PDA... Surely, the extra Maps are the same?

Roger...

TTN5 looks as if you cannot buy a single European map but need to buy the whole Europe pack. Got lost in Madrid this summer and all I need is the Spanish maps.
