Default Voices for Tom Tom Navigator 5 installation

I installed several voices from the cdrom but when I go to the change voices option on the handheld (Treo 650) everything is grayed out and I cannot select a voice. Any ideas?

Thanks

I have the same problem with voices for Palm T5. Did you fix your problem?

On the Palm devices (Zire 72, Treo 650, T3, T5, etc) it is necessary to ensure that the application, as well as the map data, has been installed to the SD memory Card. To ensure the Navigator 5 application has been installed to the SD Card please check the amount of space it occupies on your Palm PDA. To do so, please follow these steps:
  • On the main home screen of the PDA, tap on the time of day shown on the tab at the top left corner to bring down the menu
  • Select ‘Info’
  • Ensure that ‘Device’ is set to ‘Handheld’ (or ‘Phone’ in the case of the Treo 650)
  • Scroll through the list until you reach ‘Contacts-Navigation’
  • Displayed next to it is the space it uses on the PDA
  • If it shows ‘100k’ then only the icon resides on the PDA and you may want to try installing additional voices from the software CD
  • If it shows approximately ‘3811k’ then the entire application has been installed to the internal memory. In this case you would want to continue with the procedure below to remove the application from the internal memory and reinstall just the application to the SD Memory Card
  • Tap ‘Done’ to return to the main home screen of the PDA
  • Tap on the time of day shown on the tab at the top left corner to bring down the menu
  • Select ‘Delete’
  • Ensure that you are ‘Delete From: Device’
  • Find Contacts Navigation in the list, tap on it to highlight it
  • Tap the ‘Delete…’ button
  • Confirm that you do want to remove the application from the internal memory
  • Tap ‘Done’ to return to the main home screen of the PDA
The next step would be to reinstall Navigator 5 using the application CD. Insert the CD into your computer, the setup application should start automatically for you. If it does not click your Start Button, Select ‘Run’ from the menu, and browse to your CD Drive and select the Setup.exe file. Click ‘OK’ on the Run screen to start the application.
  • Select your language
  • Check ‘I Agree’ and click the Right Arrow

  • Next Select ‘Palm Powered Handheld’ and click the Right Arrow

  • Select ‘Install Application’ and click the Right Arrow

  • On the next screen, ensure that you select ‘Palm Powered-Handheld (Storage Card)’ and click the Right Arrow

The setup application will then transfer the necessary files over to your HotSync application and ask you to perform a HotSync to complete the transfer. Once the installation is complete, execute Navigator on your Palm PDA. When following through the setup, once you get to ‘Select a Voice’, tap on ‘Test’. If you do not hear a voice prompt, tap on the home icon and reinstall a voice from the application CD. Do not proceed forward to activate the maps until you can choose ‘Test’ and hear a voice prompt under the ‘Select a Voice’ in the setup menu.

I tried what is listed above, but still don't show any usable voices in the software. I think it's trying to install them as *.cab files (in fact the HotSync log confirms this) and the Palm doesn't recognize this file type.

I got it to work, no thanks to TomTom support. Using LauncherX, I deleted the Contacts Navigation program and selected "Delete Associated DB's", etc. Once I did this and re-installed Navigator 5 the voices worked perfectly. You just have to find a way to get all those old files off of your device.

On your SD card, create 2 new files. 'TomTom' and 'Voices' (without quotes). Put your voice files in the Voices folder. Ensure that all the data/bmp files read less than 100 (change to any number below 100 on all three files). Go to your voices option from preferences and you should be able to select your new voices from there.
