are these related..? Customer13/07/2005 05.49 PM Hi guy's

I am upping to 5 from 3 and the only problem i'm having is that it has now renamed the 'contacts' file to 'contacts navigator' and incorporated it as part of navigator and as I use one of the buttons as a quick start it just brings up my contacts rather than tomtom

Not too sure what I have to do from here..

Cheers

Richard

Hi Richard,

Sorry to hear that you are having so many problems, but some of these issues that you have mentioned can be resolved (the answers are on this forum). For example, the postcode issue has been addressed many times.

You obviously do not want to use tomtom anymore but I personally feel (and many will agree) that any other product is just not in the same league.

I agree that their customer support leaves something to be desired however I feel that this is because of their popularity and they must receive a lot of emails. When I had a quiry, they took 3days to answer.

Not too bad considering they were in the middle of the upgrade for tomtom5.

I understand that you are miffed, put keep things in context?

Lots of luck with any future product you choose

Whilst it's nice to read an apologist for such a lousy company..

the postcode issue hasn't been addressed for palm only pocketpc.so your comment doesn't apply
our company uses tomtom and navman -they are both very simular so your comment again doesn't apply

tomtom customer support is quite possibly the worst in the business -your comment applies with the priviso that 'they recieve lots of emails' why err you ask?? because they are crap at writing software and greedy enough to rush out unproven beta. They really are the british leyland of their chosen profession

whilst they may have only taken 3 days (good enough for you but quite frankly a dreadful response) they took over 7 days to respond to mine

I suspect the real season for the delay is that they haven't got a clue about the new software and how to fix it as it's so bug ridden they'd end up looking stupid offering 'advice' not knowing if it would work..(or more likely knowing it wouldn't)

yes I shall be leaving tomtom very soon to someone who can offer a service .

Tomtom is not the best out there and they know they have killed off a lot of goodwill (check out the other newsgroups there are loads screaming about how bad tomtom are...)

cheers

richard

Richard..I too am peed off, since upgrading to 5 from 3. So much so that I am either
1) going back to 3, complete with out of date maps, or,
2) going to sell the lot on Ebay and start again...but with what ? From what I've read, Navman seems to be a close contender, but I would like to know more of the functionality....hence my predicament.

Default TomTom Support

Given the experience I've had with TomTom I'd concur with Richard's feelings regarding their customer support. Thankfully in NZ we have an item called "the consumers guarantees act" which doesn't allow such organisations to repeatedly fob off their clients or demand funds for repair or replacement within warranty periods.

When a device fails within warranty and you actually manage to fix it by formatting the flash and re-installing the OS you would think the least TomTom could do is provide even an old map. No, they want you to pay for the latest map or pay for their service centre to install an old map.

Personally I think the only thing to commend TomTom for is taking some of the limelight off Microsoft for concerns such as "bloatware", "untested betas" and even pricing concerns.

Can't wait to get mine refunded and get either a Garmin or Navman - it may even have maps that are up to date.

Default tom tom stole my money

I bought a new Western Europe map from the TomTom site and despite numerous emails, formating my tom tom and reloading more times than I care to remember I still have not had the map sent to me.
What an absolute bag of s~~~e their support system is.
Take my advice. Do not buy from these cowboys.

If the map has downloaded it will be sat on your PC waiting for you to install it to the device, have you done this step before you phone them up as it might save a phone call? - Mike
