Default Tomtom maps slow loading

I have a Tungsten T3 with wired Tomtom. I have just upgraded to V5 and am trying to load maps of GB and France. I have replaced the original 128MB Tomtom SD card with a 512MB card so that I can hold both GB and French maps. However, trying to load these maps via the Tomtom setup and hotsync, it is taking many hours to load these maps to the card. Is there any way to speed this process? How long would you expect the loading to take?

There is obviously somethin not quite right. I would expect (personally) that the process should only take about 10minutes. Have you tried reformatting the card and starting again?

Yes, several times. The load for the French maps has been running in excess of 8 houra now (I just left the machine to it) and is not yet at the 50% mark! I agree that something is wrong, but have no guess at it.

Same here - the GB map took about 10 hours to load 100MB. Which seems somewhat excessive. It did get there eventually though - except for the 7 character postcodes.

Have you tried copying the postcode ZIP folder to your PDA memory? If that does not work, create an empty folder on your memory card and name this tomtom. This should then enable your postcodes to work.

Sorry to sound dense, but how do I create an empty directory on the Palm? Seems like an obvious thing to do but there are two problems. One, how do I create a directory and, two, there is already a directory on the SD card called TOMTOM (in upper case). That directory contains data.chk, data05.chk, data05.vif, Munich.bin, and setup.dat. The TOMTOM directory appears to be in the root of the SD card. In the same root structure I see dir (which is empty), itn, PALM, TomTom, TomTom Great_Britain and TomTom Great_Britain.postal. Does this all ssound correct to you?

Question

Unfortunately, I have a pocket pc. With that, i connect the pda to the computer then go into explore (using the computer) from there you can create a new folder by right clicking the mouse and selecting new folder. I wouldn,t know if this is the same on a palm.
