Default Navigator 5 map on Navigator 3

Hi,
As you may be aware I am totally dissatisfied with Navigator 5 and all of its problems, but I do like the new map. I have just discovered that you can use the new map with Navigator 3, brilliant!. All you have to do is to replace the Navigator 5 Great_Britain.mid file with the Navigator 3 Great_Britain.mid file and bingo a new map for an excellent program.
This may be old hat, but new to me, I just thought I would share it.
Looks like TomTom wants everybody to upgrade to 5 by saying that the new maps won't work with previous versions. A marketing ploy?

Regards
RichardJG

Hi Guys,
Well this is exactly how I got mine to work with nav 3. First install the Nav 5 Great Britain Map to your storage card using the Nav 5 setup disk, then rename the folder to something like Great_Britain Navigator Map5.
Then uninstall Nav 5 and re install Nav3 and also the Great Britain Map make sure it activated and fully working. You then need to rename this last Great Britain Folder to something like Great_Britain Navigator Map3. You should now have two map folders on your storage card. In each folder there should be a file called Great_Britain.mid.
Basically what needs to happen is the mid file wants putting in the Great_Britain Map5 folder, over writing the existing one. When you have done this, rename the 5 folder to
Great_Britain Navigator Map. It should then work. You can then delete you map3 folder to recover the 100mb of memory used.
Hope it works for you. Mine does, so I'm happy.
I haven't got the poi working yet though.

Regards
RichardJG

would it not be easier to copy the Great_Britain.mid file to your PC and once you've reinstalled TT3, just copy the file across to the memory card. (suppose it makes no difference but i've only got a 128mb card)

Hi lupos0,
yes, as long as navigator knows that the map is installed on the sd card. you can do the whole thing on the pc.

Hi Richard

Tried what you said, nothing worked, just said cant find map. Tried copying the whole of the TT5 GB map data into the TT3 GB map file, didnt work. Keeps saying need to install TT3 map first. Cant find any mid file anywhere, either TT3 or 5. Cant make TT5 run on my IPAQ for some reason, looked on TomTom web site and doesnt give my 3760 as compatable. How about e-mailing me this mysterious mid file.

Trevor
